Apple Vision Pro Headset and VisionOS: A Leap Forward in Spatial Computing

During the Apple WWDC 2023 event, Apple introduced the highly-anticipated Apple Vision Pro headset, which will operate on the latest operating system called VisionOS. This software is specifically designed for spatial computing, encompassing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. Apple claims that VisionOS offers a dynamic 3D interface that seamlessly integrates digital elements into the real world, providing an optimal user experience that adapts to different lighting conditions.

With the Apple Vision Pro headset running on VisionOS, users can control various functions through hand gestures, eye movements, and voice commands. The software allows icons and user interface windows to be displayed in the wearer’s surroundings, and even enables text entry by simply looking at the search bar through the headset’s lenses. The Vision Pro headset is capable of handling multiple apps and can sync with other Apple devices for enhanced productivity. Apple has also introduced features like Optic ID, which uses iris scanning for secure authentication, and EyeSight, which acts as a communication bridge between the wearer and the virtual world, all while ensuring user privacy through data encryption.

To expand the capabilities of the Vision Pro headset, Apple has created an app store exclusively for VisionOS. This app store will offer opportunities for third-party developers to create apps for the Vision Pro, alongside apps from renowned companies like Adobe, Microsoft, and Zoom. Additionally, over 100 Apple Arcade titles will be available on the device’s release, further enhancing the entertainment experience. Users will be able to enjoy 3D movies with Spatial Audio, providing a more immersive and engaging viewing experience.
