BAPS Hindu Mandir: Abu Dhabi To Open 1st Hindu Temple, PM Modi To Inaugurate
Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu Temple, the BAPS Hindu Mandir, is set to open on February 14, 2024, marking the UAE’s commitment to diversity. The temple was inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 1997 and was gifted to the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in 2015. The foundation was laid on April 20, 2019, and it is 108 feet high, 262 feet long, and 180 feet wide. It features seven towers representing the seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates, each with a narrative from the Shiva Purana, Ramayana, Mahabharata, or Bhagavad Gita. The temple also features detailed carvings and a ‘Dome of Harmony’ symbolizing the five natural elements, earth, water, fire, air, and space, as per Sanatan Hindu Dharma. The temple uses advanced sensor technology, with over 350 sensors throughout the building, collecting important information about earthquakes, temperature changes, and pressure changes.
