NCERT textbooks updated to mirror evolving Indian political realities

Image
The  National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)  has made significant changes to its Social Science curriculum for the academic year 2024–25. These changes reflect the evolving political landscape in India and aim to provide students with updated and accurate information. The NCERT frequently reviews and updates its textbooks to incorporate unused improvements and viewpoints. One key correction made by the NCERT is the inclusion of references to the revocation of  Article 370  in Chapter 7 of the Political Science textbook for Lesson 12. This change, made in August 2019, reflects the government’s position on Jammu and Kashmir and ensures students have accurate and politically impartial data about the region. The NCERT has also amended the definition of the Left in Chapter 3 to provide a clearer understanding of its ideological position. The revised definition emphasizes state control of the economy and support for state direction over free c...

LPG Price Cut: A Relief or a Political Move?

Image
On  International Women’s Day , Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a reduction of Rs. 100 in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, aiming to make cooking gas more affordable for households and promote family well-being. The move was not only intended to ease the financial burden on millions of households but also to contribute to a healthier environment by encouraging cleaner cooking fuels. The timing of the announcement drew criticism from the Opposition, who labeled it as an “election-driven” decision.  Shiv Sena (UBT) leader  and Member of Parliament, Priyanka Chaturvedi, accused the government of failing to address rising inflation during its two consecutive terms in power. She highlighted the impact of inflation on households, stating that rising expenses coupled with stagnant incomes have put a significant strain on families, regardless of gender. The Sena MP pointed out that the price of LPG cylinders has increased significantly in recent times, and the a...

Image
The ‘Red Diary’ controversy in Rajasthan has sparked a political clash between Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the   BJP   and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of the Congress. The controversy centers around a diary allegedly containing details of financial irregularities within the Rajasthan cabinet during a political crisis in 2020. However, Gehlot denies the existence of such a diary, dismissing it as a fictional creation. Ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly elections, the feud has escalated, with both parties using it to attack each other. Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress of running a ‘loot ki dukan’ (shop of loot) and referred to the ‘Red Diary’ as evidence of corruption. On the other hand,  Congress  questioned the BJP’s priorities and alleged they lack substantial issues to address. Modi also took a jibe at the Opposition’s new coalition, claiming their name change from UPA to INDIA is an attempt to conceal past wrongdoings. He accused them of changing n...

Ghulam Nabi Blames Rahul Gandhi For His Exit From Congress

Image
Ghulam Nabi Azad , the former leader of the Congress party, has blamed Rahul Gandhi for his exit from the party. Azad, who served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, was one of the 23 signatories to a letter sent to Congress President Sonia Gandhi in August 2020, calling for sweeping reforms in the party. In a recent interview, Azad revealed that he had offered to resign from the party after the letter was made public, but Rahul Gandhi had stopped him from doing so. Azad claimed that Rahul Gandhi had assured him that he would be given a key role in the party in the future, but that promise was never fulfilled. Azad's departure from the Congress party is a significant blow to the party, which has been struggling to maintain its position in Indian politics. Azad is a senior leader with a significant following in Jammu and Kashmir, where he has served as the Chief Minister in the past. His departure is likely to weaken the party's position in the region. The Con...
