The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections witnessed a mix of familiar and new faces claiming seats in the lower house of Parliament. The country went to the polls from April 19 to June 1, 2024, to elect 543 members, and many celebrities were among the candidates. Prominent Bollywood personalities such as Shatrughan Sinha and Kangana Ranawat were elected. Article 84(B) grants Indian citizens over the age of 25 the right to contest Lok Sabha elections, regardless of caste, religion, or gender. However, the question remains: do women in India truly have an equal opportunity to contest elections? Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding no.
