  Maharashtra is set to become a major hub for India’s maritime expansion, with the state announcing an ambitious ₹56,000 crore investment plan to boost port infrastructure, coastal logistics, and shipbuilding capacity.  The initiative includes modernization of key ports such as Mumbai, Jaigarh, and Dighi, alongside the development of new greenfield facilities to enhance cargo handling and coastal connectivity. The state government aims to attract private sector participation through public-private partnerships (PPP) and create thousands of new jobs in allied sectors. This maritime push aligns with the national “Blue Economy” vision, positioning Maharashtra as a gateway for global trade and sustainable coastal development.

Adani Vizhinjam Port, India’s First Container Transshipment Hub Inaugurated by PM Modi

  Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Adani Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime infrastructure. Touted as the country's first deepwater container transshipment hub, the port is strategically located near international shipping lanes, aiming to reduce India's dependence on foreign ports like Colombo and Singapore for cargo handling. Developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the port boasts world-class infrastructure, including the capacity to handle Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). It is expected to boost trade efficiency, generate employment, and place India on the global shipping map. With its operationalization, the Vizhinjam Port is set to transform the logistics landscape and promote economic growth in the region.

India to develop 6 Mega Ports under Maritime AmritKaal Vision 2047.

  As part of its ambitious Maritime AmritKaal Vision 2047 , the Government of India has unveiled plans to develop six state-of-the-art mega ports aimed at transforming the nation's maritime infrastructure and boosting trade. This strategic initiative aligns with India’s long-term goal of becoming a global maritime hub by 2047. The six mega ports identified under the vision include: Cochin – Vizhinjam Port Cluster : Positioned to become a key transshipment hub on the west coast, leveraging its proximity to international shipping lanes. Galathea South Bay Port : Located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, this port will enhance connectivity and strategic presence in the eastern Indian Ocean. Chennai – Kamarajar – Cuddalore Port Cluster : This integrated cluster will strengthen maritime logistics and industrial connectivity along Tamil Nadu’s coastline.
