Google Commits to 'Make-in-India': Pixel 8 Smartphones Set to Roll Out in 2024

Google has recently announced its decision to manufacture Pixel 8 smartphones in India, a significant boost for the Make-in-India program. Set to release in 2024, the move reflects a growing trend among tech giants like Apple and Samsung to invest in India’s thriving mobile manufacturing sector, which has seen remarkable growth from nearly zero to a $44 billion industry in just nine years. The government’s incentives, such as the Production Linked Incentive scheme, make India an attractive destination for tech manufacturing, fostering job opportunities and economic growth.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, priced at Rs 75,999 and Rs 1,06,999 respectively, were globally launched this month and are expected to have a positive impact on the Indian market. The decision to engage with both local and international companies, including potential collaboration with Lava International and Dixon Technologies, underscores India’s emerging role as a key player in global tech manufacturing. As the Make-in-India movement gains momentum, the youth can anticipate a surge in job opportunities, both skilled and unskilled, within the expanding tech manufacturing sector.

The broader implications of Google’s manufacturing decision extend beyond business strategy, signaling a tangible shift in India’s position in the global tech landscape. With an already thriving mobile manufacturing sector, this move not only adds value to the Indian economy but also presents collaborative opportunities for local companies to partner with tech giants, fostering mutual growth and solidifying India’s position as a prominent player in the tech manufacturing arena.
