Google Unveils ChatGPT-Like AI Features For Gmail, Google Docs

Google has announced the latest AI features in its Gmail and Google Docs. It will let users instantly generate drafts on any topic with specific tones.

The addition of generative AI to Google Workspace coincides with the addition of numerous new capabilities to other productivity suites that enable users to streamline administrative duties with just a prompt.

These new AI features are the company’s most recent attempt to add more buzzy deliciousness to its most well-liked services, following the cosmetic overhaul of Google Docs and the introduction of Google Bard.

The features that will be available include:

  • Your Gmail can be prioritized, drafted, replied to, and summarized.
  • In Documents, come up with ideas, write them down, then edit them.
  • Slides’ automatically generated graphics, audio, and video may help you bring your creative ideas to life.
  • With contextual search, auto-completion, and formula generation, you can move from raw data to insights and analysis.
  • Sheet-based Categorization
  • Use Meet to create new backgrounds and take notes.
  • Allow workflows in Chat to complete tasks.

Google disclosed that its Workspace suite’s next phase of AI integration will include support for Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet, and Chat.

Throughout the course of the year, a group of English-speaking testers in the U.S. will get access to a variety of writing-related features before they are ultimately made accessible to the general public.

Users will be able to submit their prompts within their Workspace, such as Documents and Gmail, and the AI will take care of the rest, much like other AI generators.

“A busy HR professional who wants to write personalized job descriptions, or a parent preparing the invitation for your child’s pirate-themed birthday party,” are two examples given by Google. From there, you can modify or include extra prompts to provide further help.

If you have a good amount of material but merely need assistance with your tone and style, you may also use the “I’m feeling lucky” option in Gmail.

Google reaffirms that its AI solutions are intended to be used as helpers rather than as a substitute for human labor.

The potential to accept, edit, and modify any AI-generated material is a feature of Workspace. Also, IT managers will be able to control the conditions under which Google’s AI choices operate in their businesses.

Google added that its AI-driven features, such as Smart Compose and Smart Reply for Gmail, a summary generator for Documents, together with security and privacy protection against malware and phishing assaults, already provide support for over 3 billion users.

Contrary to other businesses that have partnered with AI companies like OpenAI to integrate AI into their systems, Google is dedicated to creating its own AI chatbot, named Bard.

The company has lately shown off other AI-focused capabilities, like client-side encryption for Gmail, even though the system has not yet been made public. Additionally, Google said in January that it would reveal more than 20 AI-powered initiatives by the end of 2023.
