Officials believe that despite higher fares compared to regular trains, the significant time savings, comfort, and convenience will make it a preferred choice for business travelers and tourists alike. The project, once operational, is expected to mark a major milestone in India’s transport infrastructure.

The 280 kmph trainset will be indigenously manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), marking a significant step in India’s push for self-reliance in high-speed rail technology. The prototype will undergo rigorous testing on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, the country’s first bullet train route currently under development.   In a significant gesture of cooperation, Japan is set to offer E5 and E3 series Shinkansen trains to India free of cost. These high-speed trains will serve as inspection vehicles for the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, India’s first high-speed rail line. The E5 series, known for its advanced technology and comfort, and the compact E3 series are expected to aid in testing and maintenance of the corridor before passenger operations begin. This move underlines Japan’s continued support for India’s bullet train project, which is being developed with Japanese assistance under the Shinkansen system. The gifted trains will help accelerate trial runs and ensure top-level safety and performance standards.
