India-UAE Undersea Gas Pipeline Project To Connect 2,000 KM Energy Corridor

The proposed UAE-India undersea gas pipeline has the potential to revolutionize the energy landscape between India and the Middle East. With an estimated cost of $5 billion, the 2,000-kilometer-long pipeline aims to connect the two regions and tap into substantial gas reserves.

The project offers significant benefits, including cost savings compared to liquefied natural gas imports, diversification of energy sources, and enhanced energy security for India. SAGE, an international consortium, leads the initiative, and positive stakeholder responses have been received.

The project requires diplomatic and political support, as it involves long-term agreements between governments. Recent gas discoveries in Oman, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have reignited interest in transnational pipelines, offering opportunities for mutually beneficial agreements.

The proposed route passes through Oman and the UAE, minimizing geopolitical risks and enabling access to multiple countries’ gas reserves. By meeting the increasing demand for affordable gas, particularly in the power and fertilizer industries, the pipeline supports India’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The project aligns with India’s goal of increasing the share of gas in its energy mix and offers cost advantages compared to liquefied natural gas. It has the potential to strengthen economic ties, enhance energy security, and contribute to regional energy cooperation.

The UAE-India gas pipeline holds immense promise for transforming the energy landscape between India and the Middle East, providing cost-effective, diversified, and secure energy sources.
