Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new integrated terminal building (NITB) at Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The terminal, shaped like a shell, cost ₹707.73 crores and offers 100% natural lighting for 12 hours a day. With a capacity to handle 1,200 passengers during peak hours and around 40 lakh passengers annually, it aims to improve connectivity to the island.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) V K Singh, and other senior officials. Pictures of the terminal were shared on Twitter by Prime Minister Modi and Minister Scindia, highlighting its significance for tourism and infrastructure development in the region.
Covering 40,800 sqm, the new terminal is designed to boost tourism and create economic opportunities for the local community. Its architectural design symbolizes the sea and islands, and it incorporates sustainability features such as a double-insulated roofing system, skylights for natural light, LED lighting, and a rainwater catchment system. With an on-site sewage treatment plant and a solar power plant, the terminal aims to minimize its environmental impact and serves as a significant addition to Port Blair as a popular tourist destination.
