India Gears Up for G20 Summit: Prime Minister Modi Urges Cooperation

In September 2023, India is set to host the G20 Summit, a gathering of leaders from the world’s major economies. The event will be held at New Delhi’s newly inaugurated Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, part of an extensive effort to modernize the area and establish India as a global business hub. The Convention Centre, encompassing exhibition halls and an amphitheater, represents India’s largest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination. In preparation for the summit, the city will be temporarily shut down from September 8 to 10, with special security measures implemented, including trained “Tourist Police” deployed across key locations.

The summit’s significance is underscored by the attendance of prominent figures such as US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. To ensure safety and adherence to international standards, Delhi’s citywide shutdown and restricted access areas have been planned. While this may cause temporary inconvenience for residents due to traffic changes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged their cooperation to make the event a success. Moreover, the G20 Summit will serve as a platform for India and Gulf nations to explore enhanced economic cooperation and regional stability discussions, with Oman and the United Arab Emirates joining as guest countries alongside other invited nations like Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Nigeria.

Ultimately, the forthcoming G20 Summit in India symbolizes a convergence of global economic leaders at a state-of-the-art venue, aiming to boost India’s international standing and foster productive conversations on both economic collaboration and regional harmony.
