Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled to Visit India on September 8, Strengthening UAE-India Ties

Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the heir apparent to the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is scheduled to visit India on September 8, 2024. This visit is poised to further strengthen the strategic and trade relations between the two nations. During his time in India, Crown Prince Khaled is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other key Indian leaders, marking an important moment in the ongoing partnership between India and the UAE.

Although no formal agreements are anticipated to be signed during this visit, both sides are expected to reaffirm their commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade and security. The visit, though not yet officially announced by either country, underscores the significance of the growing ties between the two nations.

This visit is part of a series of high-profile exchanges between India and the UAE in recent years. Prime Minister Modi has made seven visits to the UAE since 2015, reflecting the strong bilateral relationship. Additionally, the UAE's President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, known as MBZ, last visited India in September 2023, further solidifying the ties between the two nations.

Crown Prince Khaled, who was named the heir to Abu Dhabi's leadership in March 2023, has made limited international trips since assuming his role. His upcoming visit to India is particularly significant given the UAE's position as India's third-largest trade partner, following the United States and China. The UAE is also India's second-largest export destination, highlighting the deep economic connections between the two countries.

The implementation of the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022 has led to a surge in bilateral trade, which reached nearly $85 billion in FY23. The UAE is also the seventh-largest investor in India, with cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows amounting to $16.67 billion from April 2000 to September 2023. Additionally, the large Indian expatriate community in the UAE, numbering 3.5 million, plays a crucial role in the relationship, contributing significantly to remittances sent back to India.

Crown Prince Khaled's visit comes at a time of shifting dynamics in the West Asian region, where the UAE has been a key player. The UAE has normalized relations with Israel, maintained engagement with Iran, and strengthened ties with China and Russia, showcasing its strategic diplomacy.

This visit by Crown Prince Khaled to India is seen as another step in consolidating the already robust bilateral relationship, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to deepening ties between the UAE and India.
