Billie Jean King Cup: Ankita Raina Led India To 2-1 Win Over Thailand

Indian tennis player Ankita Raina led her team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Thailand in the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as the Fed Cup) on Sunday. Raina, who is ranked 174th in the world, won both of her singles matches to help India secure the win.

In the first singles match, Raina defeated Thailand's Peangtarn Plipuech in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4. In the second singles match, India's Karman Kaur Thandi lost to Thailand's Bunyawi Thamchaiwat in three sets. This set up a decisive doubles match, in which Raina teamed up with Sania Mirza to take on the Thai pair of Thamchaiwat and Plipuech.

The Indian duo started strong, winning the first set 6-3, but the Thai pair fought back to take the second set 6-4. The third and final set was a tense affair, with both teams trading blows. In the end, it was Raina and Mirza who prevailed, winning 6-4 to seal the victory for India.

The win over Thailand is a boost for India's chances of qualifying for the playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup. India is currently second in its group, behind hosts Latvia, and will play their final group match against the Latvians on Monday. A win over Latvia would secure India's place in the playoffs, which will be held in February next year.

Ankita Raina's heroics in the Billie Jean King Cup have cemented her status as one of India's top tennis players. The 28-year-old from Gujarat has been a regular member of the Indian team for several years now, and has represented her country in both the Fed Cup and the Olympics. Her impressive form in the Billie Jean King Cup is a testament to her hard work and dedication and is sure to inspire a new generation of Indian tennis players.
