India Crosses 116 GW Solar PV Manufacturing Capacity amid Centre’s Push for Indigenous Production
India has reached a major renewable energy milestone by surpassing 116 GW of cumulative solar PV manufacturing capacity , reflecting the Centre’s strong emphasis on domestic production. The sharp rise in capacity comes on the back of policies like the PLI scheme , Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) , and customs duties aimed at reducing import dependence. This rapid expansion positions India as one of the world’s fastest-growing solar manufacturing hubs, covering polysilicon to modules. With rising global demand and India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, the achievement marks a significant step toward energy security, green growth, and strengthened domestic supply chains.
