Minus Zero zPod: Startup Launches India’s First Self-Driving Car
Bengaluru-based startup Minus Zero has introduced India’s inaugural self-driving car named the zPod. Equipped with True Vision Autonomy (TVA), the autonomous vehicle incorporates a camera-sensor suite and boasts Level 5 autonomy capabilities, enabling it to navigate various environmental and geographical constraints. Co-founded by Gagandeep Reehal and Gursimran Kalra in 2021, Minus Zero aspires to develop fully-autonomous vehicles akin to those created by global tech giants such as Tesla and Google. The company plans to employ artificial intelligence (AI) to address the unique challenges faced in creating autonomous vehicles suitable for Indian roads.

Minus Zero’s pioneering TVA concept utilizes Nature-Inspired AI (NIA) to achieve its objectives. By combining physics-aware vision and predictive decision-making inspired by the human brain, the company’s approach ensures efficient handling of real-world road scenarios. TVA relies exclusively on cameras as its sensor suite, offering a safe and scalable method for accomplishing Level 5 autonomy. Alongside unveiling the zPod, Minus Zero has released a whitepaper on NIA, showcasing their innovative approach to constructing generalized autonomous agents.
Looking ahead, Minus Zero intends to expand its autonomous vehicle trials in foreign markets with stable regulatory norms, conducting public road trials over the next two years. CEO Gagandeep Reehal believes that the emergence of true vision autonomy will pave the way for autonomous vehicles to address significant challenges in the mobility sector. The company envisions multiple use-cases for autonomous vehicles, including deployment for commuting within residential campuses, institutes, and other areas. Through the introduction of India’s first self-driving car and their TVA concept, Minus Zero aims to drive the development of autonomous driving technology within the country, potentially revolutionizing the way people commute and travel.
