Attacks on Hindus and Temples Surge in Sindh, Pakistan, Prompting Human Rights Concerns
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmore and Ghotki, Sindh. According to reports, criminal gangs have allegedly taken hostage 30 Hindus, including women and children. The HRCP highlighted disturbing reports of these gangs threatening to attack the community’s places of worship using high-grade weapons. They have called on the Sindh Home Department to immediately investigate the matter and provide protection to vulnerable citizens.

Incidents targeting Hindus in Sindh, Pakistan, have been on the rise. In Shaikh Bhirkio village and Tando Allahyar district, there have been several reported incidents targeting the Hindu community. Additionally, attacks on Hindu temples have become increasingly common over the past few decades. In a recent incident, a gang of dacoits attacked a Hindu temple in Kashmore, Sindh, reportedly using rocket launchers. Another 150-year-old Hindu temple in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar was demolished, with locals claiming the presence of a police vehicle providing cover during the operation.
Pakistan’s minority population, which includes Hindus as the largest minority community, represents less than 5% of the total population, as per data from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The HRCP’s call for immediate action and protection for vulnerable citizens underscores the need to address the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of religious minorities in the country.
