India's Diplomatic Triumphs and Economic Agreements Shine at G20 Summit

The G20 Summit in New Delhi continues into its second day with world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the dignitaries with a stole and explained the significance of Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram. Some leaders, like Modi and Sunak, walked barefoot, while others wore white footwear provided at Rajghat. Modi emphasized Gandhi’s ideals guiding the vision for a harmonious future in a tweet.

Key developments from the first day of the G20 Summit included the adoption of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which urged countries to uphold international humanitarian law and territorial integrity. Notably, the 55-member African Union was inducted as a permanent member of the G20, enhancing developing countries’ influence in global decision-making. India also announced the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance to accelerate efforts towards net-zero emissions and signed a historic memorandum of understanding with the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and European countries to establish an economic corridor. Additionally, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the G20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation, and India invited the UAE as a special guest, reflecting their growing bilateral relations and trade.
