India And UAE Continue High-Level Visits, Collaborate To Address Global Issues

India and the UAE have been strengthening their bilateral relationship since July 2023, with high-level visits and discussions on various topics such as energy, education, healthcare, defense, and culture. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE in July 2023, signing agreements on money, energy, and communication. The President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also visited India in August, signing agreements on defense, investment, and space cooperation.

In July 2023, they discussed energy, education, healthcare, food security, fintech, defense, and culture. They agreed to work together on oil, gas, and renewable energy like solar power, and signed an agreement to open a campus of an Indian university in Abu Dhabi. They also discussed healthcare, with the UAE promising to invest money in food parks in India. Fintech, which uses technology for banking and money, aims to make business easier between the two countries. Defense and defense cooperation are also discussed, with a focus on protecting their countries and sharing traditions and art.

India’s support for the UAE in the G20 Summit and COP-28 was significant, as they agreed to work together on global issues such as climate change, healthcare, food security, and sustainable development. They promised to fight against terrorism and ensure the safety of the seas, and to deal with rising food and energy prices. PM Modi attended the COP 28 World Climate Action Summit in November 2023, where he spoke about India’s efforts to use clean energy and reduce emissions. He also co-hosted two events focused on developing clean energy technologies and discussing how climate change affects agriculture.

India has also supported the UAE’s inclusion in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, promoting India’s vision for a diverse and cooperative world. The SCO focuses on regional security and cooperation, while BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. India’s support helps the UAE gain recognition and engage with global players while promoting India’s vision for a diverse and cooperative world.

Development cooperation between India and the UAE has been significant, with the first joint army exercise called “Desert Cyclone” taking place in Rajasthan, India. The exercise focused on tactical maneuvers, counter-terrorism operations, and urban warfare simulations. This cooperation could lead to joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and a more stable Indian Ocean region.
