Indian Delegation Discusses IMEEC in UAE

 An Indian inter-ministerial delegation recently visited the UAE to discuss the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) with key entities. This marked the first visit since the framework agreement was signed, emphasizing the importance both countries place on the IMEEC project aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and operational efficiency.



Taking place just three months after the agreement's signing, the visit highlights the urgency and commitment of both the UAE and Indian governments to the IMEEC project.UAE and Indian governments to the IMEEC project. The corridor aims to offer alternative supply routes that boost efficiency and cut costs. Both parties agreed to continue discussions to expedite the implementation of this agreement.

The Indian mission shared on social media, "The India Middle East Europe Corridor (IMEEC) is taking shape with the first visit of an Indian Inter-Ministerial Delegation to the UAE for the India-UAE Intergovernmental Framework Agreement on IMEEC. Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir led the discussions with key UAE entities including DP World, AD Ports Group, and UAE Customs."

According to the agreement, IMEEC will consist of two main corridors: the east corridor connecting India to the Gulf and the northern corridor linking the Gulf to Europe. This setup aims to provide a reliable and cost-effective ship-to-rail transit network with secure maritime routes, enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, securing supply chains, increasing trade accessibility, fostering economic cooperation, creating jobs, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India confirmed that the Indian delegates visited the UAE from May 15 to 17 to advance the IMEEC project. The framework agreement was signed on February 13 in Abu Dhabi, witnessed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.



During the visit to Abu Dhabi, the delegation included senior officials from various ministries and agencies. They toured UAE ports, including Khalifa Port, Fujairah Port, and Jebel Ali Port, to discuss initiating the project and the movement of goods between India, the UAE, and other nations. Meetings with UAE Customs authorities were also held to streamline processes.

This visit marks a significant step towards realizing the IMEEC project, aiming to transform regional trade and economic integration between the UAE and other countries. The UAE plays a crucial role by providing a supportive environment for all Indian delegates.
