Which Bollywood stars emerged victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections?

The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections witnessed a mix of familiar and new faces claiming seats in the lower house of Parliament. The country went to the polls from April 19 to June 1, 2024, to elect 543 members, and many celebrities were among the candidates.

Prominent Bollywood personalities such as Shatrughan Sinha and Kangana Ranawat were elected. Kangana Ranawat secured her first-ever election victory in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, her hometown, by defeating Vikramaditya Singh, the son of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh. Known for her vocal support of the BJP, Ranawat's win marks a significant milestone in her political career.

Another notable victory was by "Ramayan" star Arun Govil, who won the Meerut seat in Uttar Pradesh for the BJP against Samajwadi Party’s Sunita Yadav in a closely contested race, with a margin of just 10,585 votes. Hema Malini also celebrated her third consecutive term win in Mathura, defeating Congress’s Mukesh Dhangar.

Shatrughan Sinha, representing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee, won the Asansol seat in West Bengal, defeating BJP’s SS Alhuwalia. Sinha, who joined TMC in 2022, has previously represented both BJP and Congress. However, not all celebrity candidates were successful; former actress Smriti Irani lost in Amethi to Congress’s Kishorilal Sharma.

The history of Bollywood stars in politics is long and illustrious, with legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Nargis, and Sunil Dutt having participated in past elections. Currently, actors such as Govinda, Urmila Matondkar, Paresh Rawal, and Kamal Haasan remain active in the political arena, often seen campaigning during elections.

The involvement of film stars in the 2024 elections underscores the significant role celebrities play in shaping India's political landscape, blending the worlds of entertainment and politics.
