Mumbai's First Underground Rail Line in the Works

Mumbai is set to build its first underground rail line, a 7.4-kilometer stretch connecting Parel to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The project, aimed at easing congestion on one of the city's busiest routes, marks a major step in modernizing Mumbai’s rail infrastructure.

This new corridor will run beneath the existing Central Railway line and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and crowding. Authorities are currently in the planning phase, with construction likely to begin after final approvals.

Once completed, the line is expected to transform daily commutes for thousands of passengers and complement the city’s expanding metro and suburban rail network.
