India's First Butterfly Sanctuary Inaugurated in Kerala's Aralam Forest.

India’s first dedicated butterfly sanctuary was inaugurated in the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala’s Kannur district. Spread across 126 hectares, the new sanctuary aims to conserve and showcase the region's rich butterfly diversity, with over 200 species already documented in the area.

Developed as part of a biodiversity initiative, the sanctuary features butterfly-friendly plantations and nectar gardens. It will also serve as an eco-tourism attraction and a center for research and awareness about pollinator conservation.

The initiative marks a significant step in India’s commitment to preserving insect biodiversity and promoting environmental education.
