The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is working on an Internet of Things (IoT)-ready version of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), paving the way for automated digital payments through smart appliances, connected vehicles, wearables, and other IoT devices. This next-gen UPI will enable frictionless machine-to-machine payments without human intervention, ideal for scenarios like paying tolls through smart cars or settling bills via connected refrigerators.
