IIT Bombay Unveils India's First Quantum Diamond Microscope
In a groundbreaking achievement, researchers at IIT Bombay have developed India’s first indigenous Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM) — a cutting-edge tool capable of 3D magnetic imaging at microscopic precision. This innovation marks a major step forward in India’s quantum technology capabilities.
The QDM uses quantum properties of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds to detect and visualize magnetic fields with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution. Potential applications range from materials science and semiconductor research to biomedical imaging and quantum computing.
Developed entirely with indigenous expertise, the project reflects India’s growing focus on self-reliance in advanced quantum instrumentation, paving the way for breakthroughs in both academic and industrial research.
