NCRTC Launches ‘Solar on Track’ Project at Duhai Depot

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has launched its pioneering ‘Solar on Track’ project at the Duhai depot, marking the first initiative of its kind in India’s rapid rail and metro networks. The project aims to harness solar energy directly along the railway tracks to power operations sustainably.

By integrating solar panels along the viaduct and station areas, NCRTC seeks to reduce carbon emissions and operational costs while promoting green mobility. This step aligns with India’s broader commitment to renewable energy and climate-friendly urban transport.

Once fully implemented, the system is expected to significantly cut the RapidX network’s dependence on conventional power sources — setting a benchmark for future metro and regional rail systems across the country.
