Railways Targets Full Kavach Coverage by 2030

Indian Railways has set an ambitious goal to equip its entire rail network with the advanced Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system by 2030. The move aims to significantly enhance safety, prevent collisions, and modernize train operations across the country’s vast network.

Kavach, an indigenously developed technology, works by automatically controlling train speed, enforcing signal rules, and alerting drivers to potential hazards in real time. With successful deployment on select high-density routes, the Railways is now preparing for a massive scale-up, including production expansion and accelerated installation timelines.

Once fully implemented, Kavach is expected to improve punctuality, reduce human-error-related accidents, and bring India’s rail safety standards closer to global benchmarks, marking a major leap toward a safer and more efficient rail ecosystem.
