India Crosses 116 GW Solar PV Manufacturing Capacity amid Centre’s Push for Indigenous Production

India has reached a major renewable energy milestone by surpassing 116 GW of cumulative solar PV manufacturing capacity, reflecting the Centre’s strong emphasis on domestic production. The sharp rise in capacity comes on the back of policies like the PLI scheme, Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), and customs duties aimed at reducing import dependence.

This rapid expansion positions India as one of the world’s fastest-growing solar manufacturing hubs, covering polysilicon to modules. With rising global demand and India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, the achievement marks a significant step toward energy security, green growth, and strengthened domestic supply chains.
