Yamuna Waterway Plan Set to Transform Connectivity in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is poised for a major boost in inland transport as plans take shape for a 248 km water transport route along the Yamuna River. The proposed waterway aims to create a seamless link between Kanpur–Bundelkhand region and the Sangam in Prayagraj, where the Ganga and Yamuna meet.

Officials believe the route will significantly reduce transportation costs, enhance regional trade, and open new opportunities for tourism along the Yamuna corridor. By connecting interior districts to a major national water network, the project is expected to improve logistics for businesses and support balanced regional development.

If implemented, the Yamuna water route will mark a major milestone in expanding India’s inland waterways and strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s inter-district connectivity.
