DDC 0001 Sold for Rs 2.08 Crore: India’s Most Expensive Fancy Car Number Plate Ever
India’s fascination with luxury and status symbols reached a new high after a fancy car registration number was sold for an eye-watering Rs 2.08 crore, making it the most expensive number plate ever auctioned in the country. The registration number “DDC 0001”, also written as DDC 001, shattered all previous records and grabbed national attention.
The historic sale took place during the launch of Auction House by Big Boy Toyz, a new luxury auction platform introduced by the well-known premium car dealer Big Boy Toyz (BBT).
Who Bought the Rs 2.08 Crore Number Plate?
The successful bidder for DDC 0001 was Kiran Kolpakula, a businessman from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. The number plate was earlier owned by Jatin Ahuja, Founder and Managing Director of Big Boy Toyz, before being put up for auction during the special launch event.
According to reports by automobile information portal Cartoq, the bidding for the vintage number plate attracted significant interest, ultimately concluding at an unprecedented Rs 2.08 crore.
Auction House by Big Boy Toyz: A New Luxury Platform
The sale marked the debut of Auction House by Big Boy Toyz, a platform designed to auction luxury collectibles beyond just cars. The successful auction of DDC 0001 became the highlight of the launch event, instantly positioning the platform as a serious player in India’s luxury auction space.
Commenting on the record-breaking sale, Jatin Ahuja said that the result reflects a growing appetite for trusted, high-value auction platforms in India.
“The Rs 2.08 crore auction of DDC 0001 shows that collectors are ready for a trusted platform, no matter where they are from. Auction House by Big Boy Toyz brings that trust to a bigger world of luxury collectibles. It follows global standards but understands how people in India buy and sell,” he was quoted as saying.
Why Fancy Number Plates Command Such High Prices
In India, fancy and VIP vehicle registration numbers are widely viewed as symbols of prestige, power, and exclusivity. Numbers like 0001, 0007, 8888, and single-digit combinations are particularly sought after, especially among luxury car owners, celebrities, and business leaders.
With online auctions making the bidding process more transparent and competitive, demand for rare registration numbers has surged, pushing prices to record levels.
Earlier Record: KL 07 DG 0007
Before the sale of DDC 0001, the title of India’s most expensive number plate belonged to KL 07 DG 0007, which was sold for Rs 46 lakh.
The plate was purchased by Venu Gopalakrishnan, founder of IT firm Litmus7, for his Lamborghini Urus Performante, a luxury SUV priced at approximately Rs 6.6 crore. At the time, the sale was considered extraordinary, but it now looks modest compared to the latest Rs 2.08 crore record.
Haryana’s Rs 1.17 Crore VIP Plate Controversy
In another notable case, Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Haryana, bid Rs 1.17 crore for the fancy number plate HR88B8888 during an online auction. The bid ranked among the most expensive in the state.
However, Kumar failed to deposit the amount by the December 1 deadline, leading authorities to cancel the bid and initiate an investigation into his financial assets. The incident highlighted the importance of strict compliance and financial verification in high-value number plate auctions.
Luxury Meets Identity on Indian Roads
The Rs 2.08 crore sale of DDC 0001 underlines how vehicle registration numbers have evolved into luxury assets in India. What was once a bureaucratic formality is now a booming niche market where exclusivity, identity, and status come at a premium.
With platforms like Auction House by Big Boy Toyz entering the scene, experts believe India’s luxury auction ecosystem—including fancy number plates—is only set to grow further.
